Walk Around: August 6
Saturday, August 6th will be a full day at Brandywine Summit. We start at 10 am in Biddle Hall with the Association's Annual Meeting. The meeting start time was earlier than usual to give us enough time—and energy!—to complete all agenda topics and have plenty of time for discussions.
After the meeting, all interested cottagers are invited to attend the next BSCM 150 and Beyond committee meeting, at 1 pm in Biddle Hall. A Simple Supper will follow at 5 pm, featuring a "Baked Potato Bar" with lots of trimmings.
The evening program kicks off at 7 pm in the Tabernacle with our annual tradition of the Money Tree. Please join us for music and a hymn sing, while children collect donations for the Camp Meeting, pin them onto the tree, and get to ring the Tabernacle bell. Our main event starts at 7:30 pm and features the popular local music ministry of the Rockdale Boys (see news item below), in the their first ever visit to Brandywine Summit.
When the band finishes, the singing starts. Cottagers will light the Camp Meeting paths with candles, lumineres, and lights to guide us on our yearly qwalk Around. Jill and Simon Shute will lead cottagers and guests around the Camp grounds while singing hymns and praises to God.
"Walk Around" finishes back at the Tabernacle for the ceremonial closing of this year's program season. Food and beverages will be available in "The Green", by the Tabernacle, for fellowship after the service.
BSCM 150 + Beyond
As discussed as last year's Annual Meeting, the Board of Trustees has launched the "BSCM 150 and Beyond" committee. The committee's charter encompasses a short term goal of planning for our upcoming 150th celebration, as well as a more long term goal of setting the path for the future of our Camp Meeting: spiritual vision, grounds and facilities work, and interactions with neighbors and the larger Christian community.
Jim Pierson-Perry is one of the co-chairs (others to be announced later). We are recruiting members and our next meeting will be Saturday, August 6th at 1 pm in Biddle Hall. If you have ideas on where the Camp Meeting should be headed, now is the time to speak up, join in, and help lay the path for the next 150 years of BSCM!
The Rockdale Boys Visit BSCM
A long-time local favorite, the Rockdale Boys will bring their gospel and bluegrass music ministry to Brandywine Summit on Saturday, August 6th at 7:30 pm in the Tabernacle. Admission is free and all are welcomed!
The Rockdale Boys have been playing together as a group since 2003. The genesis of the band took place when Mark Sutherland and Bob Alek, two long time residents of Rockdale, met at Mark's birthday celebration. Harry Gambrill was also present with a banjo on his knee. A jam session occurred (Mark's birthday wish) and all three felt a spiritual as well as a musical connection. Dan Hughs joined the band after a short parade of bass players, and added a fourth voice along with a solid sense of timing and tempo. It was just what was needed to tighten and refine the sound. To complete the band, veteran fiddle player Rick Shryock joined the musical line-up in the summer of 2007. His blazing fiddle, strong vocal and a fine sense of how bluegrass music should be played, transformed the sound into something truly inspired and not to be missed.
The boys have mostly been performing for church benefits and at local festivals and events. The music is a mix of traditional Bluegrass, Gospel and some original compositions.

Is Your Cottage In Safe Shape?
Please make sure that the following items are in place to ensure the safety of yourself and fellow cottagers:
- a working water hose attached outside of your cottage
- your cottage number on the front and back of your cottage that emergency vehicles can spot
- a working smoke detector—check that battery!
- a fire extinguisher
